Our flight to Paris and EuroDisney, staying at our resort hotel, the Cheyenne

After a very early start at 5am, on off on BA 757 from Heathrow for our flight to Paris and EuroDisney, staying at our resort hotel, the Cheyenne where we found freezing cold conditions with gale-force winds and snow flurries.

A good afternoon and early evening overcoming the weather by picking inside attractions in Fantasy land and getting snacks in between.

We had set our alarm clocks for 5.00am and earlier and it was not easy sleeping with that fact in mind. To oversleep would be to miss the outgoing flight and, with it, the holiday. This did not bear thinking about. All up and ready in good time before the 6.00am courtesy bus called, the first of the day, for Heathrow Terminal 4.

All checked in safely on a BA 757 ready for our flight to Paris allowing us to eat breakfast in the departure lounge. The flight was comfortable but the weather was still cold and rainy both at home and then upon arrival in Paris as we took the transfer coach from the airport to our EuroDisney resort hotel, the Cheyenne. Our reception was poor as we first had to queue up outside the door and then again to be checked in which took an hour we could have used better after our journey.

In this situation and, with the cold and spartan conditions, Diana was already wishing that we had not have come and was missing the warm American weather that we had come to associate with Disney. The room was also small but was warm and with bunk-beds for the girls who liked this sleeping arrangement. It was to be found in the "Wyatt Earp" building itself part of a dispersed estate of buildings modelled on and emulating a "wild west" town. This would have been better if some western characters and horses had been hamming it up in Knotts Berry Farm fashion but it fell rather flat in the freezing cold with gale-force winds and snow flurries setting more of the atmosphere so that we had to run from one building to another.

We definitely felt that there had been cutbacks on this type of thing to try and make the idea profitable. A drink and rest in our room and then a long wait in the open in the freezing cold for a transfer bus to the EuroDisney park. Diana was depressed but I tried to keep the girls amused by playing with them and helped with the French language communication that was still very much needed. We had a good afternoon and early evening overcoming the weather by picking inside attractions in Fantasy land and getting snacks in between.

Back to the hotel via an Esso garage shop which, believe it or not, was the cheapest place to by some food and water as we were finding the initial impressions of Disney prices as being very expensive. A quiet evening with baths all round before the family retired and I stayed awake late updating my journal.

I had tried to get the family interested in French radio and TV earlier with no success apart from Della which was a pity as I felt it would help their understanding and enjoyment of the country. Eventually to bed around 11.30pm local time (10.30pm British Summer Time) having also listened to Radio 4 long wave on the headphones to the 4th Test coverage where, for a change, England were actually beating the West Indies.
