After leaving Sam out in the cold last night, I started organising the Offord’s election and dog training early this morning.

I had been so preoccupied with my telephone calls last night and staying up late to receive and collate canvassing statistics by telephone that I completely forgot to put both the car and Sam away last night. The poor dog was curled up under the rear porch and locked out of his kennel and I only realised when I heard him barking at the milkman when he should normally have been asleep!

He was still his old self and no worse for his experience but probably did not get as much rest as usual. I was up early in consequence and, having thought about the election campaign, decided to start telephoning round at 8.00am to try and get some canvassing going in The Offords. I was reasonably successful and, having got Percy to cancel a meeting and arranged Sally to baby-sit Luke, I got Chris Colbert to join me and Percy and we had a good session in Offord Cluny.

This was just as well as the Conservatives were out putting up posters at Fitz Farm. I saw our old pony "Sundance" stables there and chatted to the stable proprietors. He is still very sound and getting plenty of work with Liza Drake riding him most days. He is still an active and forward pony and difficult to catch and call in from the field but is no trouble otherwise. Two good runs with Sam on the eve of his second pointing test; one in the gravel pit complex this morning and the second at Molesworth tonight but found game at neither location even though the dog ran well and tried quite hard.

I have been letting him run more and roam under looser control and I do not know whether this will count against me being able to control him tomorrow. At least it gives him the maximum chance of trying to find something. A long chat to Jimmy tonight and I will meet him at Woodall Park tomorrow.
