Long lazy day reading and coping with our family coughs and colds before buying a Christmas Tree and then home to watch ‘The Day After’ all about the dangers of nuclear war as the Geneva talks to avoid this in real life struggle

A long and lazy lay in, reading Times and Economist and catching up on home and overseas news. Time out for a breakfast of toast, marmalade and apple juice and then back to bed, feeling cold and suffering from a cold. Later to get up and phone David Fear to find out about his trip to Belgium and cheer him up.

Success in signing up the dealer but a small operation and unlikely to yield any large number of sales to help our present problem. Later to rise and dress quickly and by car with Di and Debbie to St Neots where we collect Daniel from Preslands and all off together to The Happy Eater at Sandy for Saturday lunch. After to Bickerdikes Garden Centre to exchange greetings with Mr Bickerdike and buy a 6ft Christmas Tree and some bird food and feeder. Back home via St Neots for some prawns for tea and, after watching some wrestling on the television (Big Jim vs Haystack!), out in the dark to feed a very hungry flock of ducks and put them away in the cold clear night air. Then to my prawn tea and after to watch an evening of television ending in the fiction was film ‘The Day After’ which depicted vividly the effects and aftermath of nuclear war. A powerful film that showed the complete desolation that would result which will lead to a continued debate in the weeks to come now that mutual intransigence appears to be preventing the Geneva arms talks from breaking down. Late to bed and awake during the night to help with Diana’s care of Debbie, who is suffering from her worrying cough and cold.
