Sam's Training Day in Harlow via Wymondham to collect Jim Bird and Ben, On a cold day with a chill breeze my my feet were frozen by the end of the afternoon after I had stumbled into deep water and had two wet sleeves and two boot-fuls of water.

Sam was quite good on his general obedience work and retrieved well on land but growled at other dogs at times but many other dogs whose behaviour was worse and the ones that bettered him were a bit older

I had arranged to share the journey down to Harlow with Jim Bird and his dog Ben and so got up in good time to try first wearing Sam out with a long walk with the aim of steadying him up. There was no sound from the rest of the family as I got up and dressed and so I gave him an even longer run than usual and not only took him around Crabbett's Marsh but also across the fields and then into Horning to get a morning newspaper.

He was quite good on his quartering and obedience work and then was patient as I went in for my cereal breakfast. Soon time to leave afterwards for the journey to Harlow via Wymondham. I left later than intended but still got there early enough to be offered a cup of tea before it was time to journey on. We found our training field access flooded with the ford and brook even deeper than during the last flood. I had a poor start to the session as I stumbled into deep water and had two wet sleeves and two bootfuls of water into the bargain! It was a cold day with a chill breeze and so my feet were frozen by the end of the afternoon.

Sam was quite good on his general obedience work and retrieved well on land but growled at other dogs at times and failed to enter water when I wanted him to do some water retrieving. Even so, there were many other dogs whose behaviour was worse and the ones that bettered him were a bit older. Back for a late tea and then a nice warming bath and change of clothes for the evening. I had been given a rabbit's skin by the trainer and I salted it tonight and then sewed it into a cover for a dummy which will be very useful for future training.

Also arranged to meet Jim again in the morning for another training session in Acle and, it being an early start at my request, I got to bed early tonight to prepare for it. Although showering when we left Norfolk, it was bright and dry for our training session. I will be glad when all of this rain and water recedes.
