Debbie, now in the school hockey team was brave to make a speech to her class in a political debate

Monday 5th July 1993 - Watching cricket and films on another fine, warm and sunny day after a satisfactory eye test and day with Sam.

England batted through the day against Australia with the loss of only two more wickets. Debbie was brave to make a speech to her class in a political debate and propounded the cause of the Liberal Democrats.

Another fine, warm and sunny day and one on which I should have got quite a few chores done. In the end I just managed to archive this last two months' journal as I spent most of the day tending the dog and watching the cricket on TV. I was taking care with Sam to ensure that he was obeying the "come" and "heel" commands and also gave him a few more "water retrieves" and he was good in all respects. The trick is to get him to come to his "heel" and "sit" right beside me with his shoulder virtually touching my leg which is quite difficult as he always tries to stay one pace in front.

The journal was another difficult job and always takes a long time. It is amazing just how soon the months roll by as you just see one out and another is gone in a flash. I got out to take Daniel into St Neots for lunch with Diana after which he had a hair-cut and I got an eye-test. It showed that my sight had deteriorated in the last year but not enough so that my existing half-eye glasses would need replacing.

England batted through the day with the loss of only two more wickets and the play was fascinating as they get into a position of ascendancy against Australia for the first time in the series. A relaxing evening as well as I watched a good TV film with Diana in the lounge. Debbie was brave to make a speech to her class in a political debate and propounded the cause of the Liberal Democrats but in this school that educates James Major, the son of the Prime Minister, the class vote of the self-centred elite went unanimously to the Conservatives.
