Sam's Training Class day in Harlow
Sam's Training Class day in Harlow

A breakfast rebellion as I cooked myself some scrambled egg and bacon on Sam's Training Class day in Harlow which was very hot and uncomfortable but otherwise went reasonably well.

The journey home finding Di's parents had come over for tea and to give Della their present.

The day was hot and sunny again and so Diana opened up all of the doors and windows early and gave the house the best chance of remaining cool. I did not wake up until 8.00am and it was some time after this that I managed to get out to Sam. He was very understanding and patient for his food and his run was clean as well. A good long run in the hay meadow opposite and Sam did not trouble the anglers who had gathered there for an "Inter-pubs" Fishing Match.

Once back, I found that Diana was serving my daily breakfast of cereal and I rebelled and wanted something cooked; starting an argument in the process. In the end I cooked myself some scrambled egg and bacon which I enjoyed and was not fattening. The rest of the morning on my journal, finishing the summary for May and starting that for June but then an early lunch by arrangement so that I could get away with Sam for his G.S.P. Club gun-dog training session in Harlow. Arrived early and was again disappointed that they started late after 3.00pm.

Not very many people turned up because of Wimbledon Mens Final Day and there was just Sam and one other in the puppy class and Sam was the better of the two; walking to heel, staying, coming and fetching dummies in the water. He still ran off to other groups of dogs and I had to run over to retrieve him, and this is his weakness which I must practice upon. I must use my voice in disapproval when this happens rather than relying on catching him doing it and punishing him within reach. He also comes to heel and sits in the wrong position and must sit beside me rather than in front.

He was still jumpy and excited as a pup but at least he was active and keen as some of the other dogs had become quite docile in the heat. Proceedings followed a minute’s silence for the untimely death of Lord Joicey, the Club President as the result of a tractor accident. The journey home and found Di's parents had come over for tea and to give Della their present. Rather late therefore taking him out for his food and run but he got on quite well as we passed plenty of people and other dogs.

Helped Diana with the swimming pool this evening and also tried to repair a leaking tap before settling down to my journal and the month's summary. Today was very hot and uncomfortable but I still made good use of it. Daniel was on the telephone to his girlfriend today and is planning to come with me to Norfolk on Tuesday. At least he helped me by washing my car today and I shall give him some subsistence money if he is of use at home.
