The strange death at sea of business tycoon Robert Maxwell
The strange death at sea of business tycoon Robert Maxwell

As Della’s care became more stable, I was able to attend Council Meetings and found Little Paxton Parish Council in a positive and expansive mood but I was still unhappy with Della's traction. A milder day after the recent frosts but the main news was the death at sea of business tycoon, Robert Maxwell

I had got Della off to sleep soon after 10.00pm last night and was therefore able to get a fairly full night myself. Di woke me at 7.00am as usual and then went off to the hospital. She was able to leave Della with Linda, the play supervisor from Eaton Socon, for the rest of the morning and we then took turns to spend time with her for the afternoon and evening. I was at home for much of the time in the afternoon and got quite a lot of paperwork done and our financial affairs up to date.

This evening, I managed to get to the Little Paxton Parish Council Meeting for most of the time and I was pleased to see them in such a positive and expansive mood. They are considering a range of village projects and also the possibility of taking over the responsibility for the fabric of the village hall itself which would be of great help to the Village Hall, of which I am Trustee. Once back to Holly Ward, I was unhappy with the state of Della's traction again and the way in which it is being maintained. her leg keeps sliding along the Thomas's Splint until the thigh ring is under the fracture which makes a nonsense of the support. Her leg also keeps rotating outwards and the traction gives no guide to that at all.

They called an orthopaedic houseman up, a lady, and she could see some of the problem but did not want to change the system at that time of night. In the end, I managed to settle Della down and we will pursue the traction method tomorrow. It was much milder today after the recent frosty days. There were the three by-elections around England and Scotland but the results would not be known until tomorrow. The main news is still of the death at sea of the business tycoon, Robert Maxwell, whose inquest said that he had a massive heart failure and then fell overboard so that his body was recovered some 8-12 hours later which all seems rather far-fetched.
