On an even milder and windier day, walking with Della to take Sam to her school bus stop and then time with Sally helping with political power issues and appointing Peter Brown as the new handyman

It was even milder today that the last few days but then even windier still as I got up early so as to be ready and out to give Sam a good chance to avoid fouling his kennel. He was quite recovered from what I think was the effect of the cheese on Sunday and, though loose, was getting better all the time.

This meant that I was able to get him ready for Della to walk to the bus stop where she continued to play with him until the bus arrived. I thought it was too windy for proper scenting today and so I concentrated on some water and retrieving work which he did quite well. Into St Neots with Diana where, after a Harvest Bakery coffee and bun, I checked on my building society accounts and then spent about an hour with Sally discussing election plans and how to tackle certain of the political problems of the power we already have.

I counselled her (and later Percy by telephone) about how to deal with a difficult councillor and some contractual problems in relation to the building of a new town leisure centre on the site of the old open-air swimming pool. Back for lunch at home and then, this afternoon, I took up Peter Brown's reference and, finding it satisfactory, arranged for him to start early next week. This evening watching a TV football match, updating my journal and composing an appointment letter for our new handyman.
