After another good night, and attending to our chores, we set off for Norfolk, foregoing a visit to my parents at their request. We arrived in Horning just in time for a solicitors’ and then an estate agents’ meeting to review the purchase of Heronshaw. after which we looked at some possible new boats.

I had another good night and a reasonable start to embark upon an active day. Firstly to breakfast and then the need to attend our plants and creatures in the absence of Pete and Joan. I got Daniel to supervise the swimming pool as well, which had quite a lot of straw smuts on it and needed the filter back flushing. By about 9:30am we were ready to leave for our day in Norfolk.

My parents did not want us to drop in (Dad feel self-conscious over his weeping and discharging ear) and so we stopped for coffee at a Happy Eater which gave the girls a chance to play on the Lego and the outside amusements. I offended a grieving mum. I had noticed a very attractive young lady in a tight-fitting and rather sexy black dress who turned my head and made me draw Diana’s attention. Her mother came over when I was on my own and told me she was fed up with men looking and passing comments as she was on compassionate leave to attend the funeral today! Oh dear! I think it would be better if mourning dresses were less fitting and simpler as they do not want to attract such attention for their wearers at such a sensitive time.

I drove onward to arrive at Wroxham at 12:30pm – just time to spend 20 minutes with my solicitors before lunch. We had received the contracts and local searches for Heronshaw and there appeared to be no legal problems there at all. Then we had lunch at the Riverside Café with such pleasant attention and service even though the place was so busy. There was a little time for Diana to shop in Wroxham and then we went over to Horning to see Mr Golden of the Broadland Estate Agency to resolve the question on the inventory of Heronshaw.

There was time in Horning for afternoon tea, the shops, a peep at the local boat agencies of Percival’s and the Norfolk Yacht Agency and then back to Wroxham where we had an arrangement to meet Mr Richard Allen at George Smith & Co to see the progress on a 31 foot centre cockpit boat that we were considering. It is beginning to look quite impressive but there are several changes we would need to legroom and length on the bunks, showers and held positions. We are also nervous of the beam and its ability to navigate Great Ouse locks. For these reasons, we will not take this first boat but will probably take another in the series – with the modifications which we need. An idea which I floated whilst coming back in the car is to buy one of their 24ft boats as well – keeping one each property and both of them together for our longer holidays.

Home quite quickly and then a busy hour or two doing some chores before bed. Historic news today of the new Solidarity Prime Minister being sworn in with the voting support from all parties. The calls for a national effort to solve their appalling economic problems. An economic disaster also for Merthyr Tydfil as large job losses at the Hoover factories compound the problems of their local mines closing.

Historic pictures are being received from space probe Voyager to that is been on a 12-year voyage and is now reaching its climax of sending back views and information on the planet of Neptune and its moons. A few spots of rain were arriving tonight, and some showers are forecast tomorrow to ease the drought.
