This to Richard Haydon of his  Bakery in Diss; Dear Richard, You will be aware that we are still awaiting your price list so that we might know the price we are paying for our bread. Also, when trying to contact you this morning we have found that your telephone has gone unobtainable.

I should be grateful if you could send me a fax at your earliest convenience, so that a) we might know your fax number and b) we will know what price we are paying for our bread. I look forward to hearing from as soon as possible.

To Alan Gilbert of his bakery in Diss, Dear Mr Gilbert, You may be aware that an Allied Bakeries promotion started on the 30th September 1996, involving Kingsmill Medium & Thick, Allinsons Medium, Thick & Hibran and on Spar Crumpets.

We were not notified of the commencement of this promotion by either yourselves or Allied Bakeries and in fact found out by chance from a Spar Bulletin.

Yesterday morning David Johnson of Allied Bakeries and yourself personally agreed that it was simply a matter of changing product ordering codes and that you knew of our quantity requirements, and that the correct bread would arrive.

Kingsmill and Allinson are on 24 hour ordering notice so there seemed no reason why we should not be getting promotion price flashed bread this morning. However, we did not and when the matter was raised with Dave, the salesman, he said we wouldn’t be getting them until later in the week.

We tried last night and again this morning to speak to you by telephone to resolve this problem but could only leave a message with somebody today. We trust that when we receive our bread tomorrow morning, Wednesday 9th, that it will be promotion bread and that we will be notified in good time of future promotions.

Communicating with you as our supplier is very difficult as you are often out of the office and there is no telephone answering machine or fax number to which messages can be sent.

May we respectfully suggest that the use of one of the modern very reasonably priced combined answering machine/faxes is an indispensable aid to anyone in the distribution industry as we are sure your other customers and suppliers would agree.

In the meantime we are sending copy of this letter back via your roundsman and directly to you.
