Collecting Mum from Stanton on another hot day and bringing her to Paxton for her birthday and visit to Dad’s grave in the cemetery as Daniel and Angela also visits. A lovely time with the family on the Hayling View games lawn. Also finding time to place the Corsican Pine order from Jewson for large logs for Harnser construction

This was the day that I had been planning for some time that involved bringing Mum over to Paxton from Stanton for a birthday visit. As this was to be after lunch, there was time this morning for me to do some chores and for Diana to go shopping. Most important, however, was for me to progress the timber quotations and place the order which needed to be ready for the start of work in a little over two weeks' time. In the end, Jewson’s came up with some good quality home-grown Corsican pine in large logs for the bigger sections at £300 per cubic metre planed and treated and gave me a further two-and-a-half percent discount on the rest of the order and so I placed the full order with them.

This done, and lunch eaten, I drove off to collect Mum and bring her back on another hot day. She came to The Hayling View for a cup of tea first and then Diana joined us with a selection of flowers, and we went up to the cemetery together. The breeze kept us just cool enough and it was lovely up there for once. Home to find the girls back from school and soon Daniel and Angela arrived as well so that Mum was able to see all of them. Diana did a nice sit-round tea in the lounge and then we all went down to the games lawn where Della showed everybody how she could now ride a bike for the first time. We played tennis and sat on the grass by the river as Della fed the ducks with bread.

We thought that we saw the offspring of the Khaki Campbells that we used to keep which was quite interesting. Then, with the daylight running out, it was time to take Mum home and then to come home in the Range Rover which was all quite tiring. Very grateful, therefore, to get into my bed and have a good rest from all of the driving and socialising.
