A social day, after a late start, taking Diana and five girls bowling in Bedford, to lunch at Pizza Hut and then an afternoon in the "Oasis" swimming pool for a long session swimming and using the whirlpools and water chutes. I was tired this evening for my planned meeting with Steven Bloom when he suggested doing without architects and modify existing boat-house designs, commissioning builders and piling contractors direct and he offered to do some research for me.

I woke up feeling a bit groggy this morning after my return to work yesterday. and then down to have breakfast with the family where everyone, except Diana, were wearing their dressing gowns. A depressing start as a short note from Michael said simply that he had given my request much thought but had decided not to change his mind; adding that he would not be attending the next two HDC meetings. After a little thought, I decided that this therefore confirms my own intentions not to stand again for Council next May as I am not going to make expensive personal sacrifices if he is not to make a small one to compensate. A little writing and then out in mid-morning to start our social and family day by going bowling.

Had quite a car full with Diana and five girls and had to get them all in the right places but we made it to Bedford all right. A nice session bowling with the girls using a "bumper lane" having cushions in the gullies to redirect the balls. Della nearly won until Debbie got a strike in the last frame. Lunch at the nearby Pizza Hut and then an afternoon in the "Oasis" swimming pool. I read today's papers and then a book on "Rough Weather Sailing" whilst the girls had a long session swimming and using the whirlpools and water chutes. The humidity and temperature of the complex was quite exhausting, and I was tired this evening for my planned meeting with Steven Bloom. We had a drink together and then met late talking about both Heronshaw and boating. His advice was to do without architects and modify existing boat-house designs, commissioning builders and piling contractors direct. He is prepared to do some research for me as he is available, and if I made it worth his while
