A day of problems but I was protecting the frames with Cuprinol and the workers fitted a lot of masterboard which stiffened the wooden frame. A troubled start with the roofers who were late arriving and I was late getting the Marley Dry Ventilated Ridge so they could then only lay a token couple of felt layers which hardly sheltered very much of the work.

Debbie was playing with neighbouring Amy and Della was left lonely and jealous and I heard from Freda that Mum had an accident and hurt her "good" leg by running into it with her electric wheelchair

Up early again this morning and out to do some wood-staining. This time I went up on to the roof and worked my way around the dormer windows and then along the facia board applying the second coat. The effect was quite good, showing up the dormers and the final colour achieved with two coats of Cuprinol. The workmen cut and fitted a whole lot of 9mm Masterboard to complete the back wall and then, after fixing the last rafters and facia to the dyke-side roof hip, fitted more 6mm board on the front gable wall so that the structure was braced in two directions. The roofers were late to arrive today after their city job but then I was late getting the samples of Marley Dry Ventilated Ridge and so they only had time today to lay the lead to the valleys of the dormers and then lay a token couple of felt layers which hardly sheltered very much of the work.

I laid out all of the floorboard with Alan in the upper floor space in cross layers and then used such covers as we had left to try and protect them from the rain. I then stacked all of the match-boarding underneath as the weather forecast was for rain over the weekend which makes me a bit upset that I could not get the roofers to felt in the roof by this time. Today was warm and dry and our luck held again but it is asking rather too much for this to hold until later on Monday. The girls went to Norwich this morning and afternoon and then played around in the evening, Debbie out in the dinghy with Amy again leaving Della jealous and furious about her "stealing my sister when I wanted to play with her"! Bad news on my answering machine with a message from Freda that Mum had an accident and hurt her "good" leg by running into it with her electric wheelchair and, being unable to get around on her own to the bath or toilet etc, Freda had arranged urgent transport for her to join her in Redgrave. I will call in the morning and we shall visit them and see what we can do. More poor performances in the Test and Olympics and the world's politicians getting all involved over the Serb/Croat racial battles in what was formerly Yugoslavia with atrocities in prison camps the latest flash-point.
