Celebrating our election victory with a meal in the Wagon and Horses

The aftermath of our great victory sorting out the committee rooms but also celebrating our successes in The Wagon and Horses but regretting Labour had done less well as we now were level as joint leaders of the opposition on the District Council but we agreed to cooperate against the Tories.

I laid in a while but was still up by about 8.00am feeling very groggy after the night's activities. I checked with the television teletext and was pleased to find our victories recorded but surprised to find that the Labour Party had not only failed to win Huntingdon North against Mike Robertson, but had also lost their own Huntingdon West ward against Bill Biram! This meant that the Liberal Democrats had increased to the same as Labour and that we were now joint leaders of the opposition! Later I tried to call Jim Lomax but he was either not there or not answering and so I spoke to Mark Slater instead. I expressed our regret that he was not elected and agreed that it still made sense for our two parties to co-operate at both Town and District level. I then telephoned Bill Biram to congratulate him as we remember him when he used to be on the council and talk about fishing in the river Great Ouse.

Then a call to Mike Robertson to congratulate him on his victory against the odds, saying that I would have missed my little jousts with him and rather crazy sense of humour. He revealed that they were using modern computer technology in this ward which is quite revealing. I tried to make sense of much of the printouts and other information that I had brought back from the election locations and then went over to Chris Colberts later in the morning to try to sort out the Committee Room. There was not much time before lunch in the end and so we went down to the Wagon and Horses for a meal and then tackled the job afterwards. I got on quite well with Chris and John and we first cleared the conservatory and then the computer room. I sat and keyed in all of the remaining telling numbers to complete the data record and then ran off some closing reports for the archive. It was teatime before I had finished and then I was getting rather tired this evening and had an early night. I was trying to sort out my office and getting nowhere.
