Sally and Brian Guinee were not out canvassing tonight as Michael did not manage to contact them and so I dragged him over to see them and saw that we met to discuss their contribution to the campaign.

A full day organising our local Election canvassing, getting five out in The Eaton’s and reviewing the Priory campaign with the candidates before keying in all of the canvassing data. This as the Poll Tax dies a formal death with the re-introduction of a property tax based on capital values with a discount of 25% for one-person occupation.

Another busy day, this time concentrating on election work from start to finish. Up quite early and then breakfast with the girls before they set off for school. I tended the conservatory and then the fish before spending a little time with the gardener who is making good progress on our new project of putting a concrete path by the river. I vacuumed and tended to the swimming pool as well and found it needing quite a bit of attention, but Mum telephoned during this and I forgot to call her back afterwards. This afternoon, I worked on typing in some of the journal entries that had waited since my American holiday. This extended until nearly tea-time when I got involved in some intra-campaign organisation and gathering statistics so that we could decide on targeting resources.

After an early tea, I then went into the campaign proper. I received the canvassers at Eaton Socon and managed to get five out visiting the as-yet uncanvassed areas. The helped and encouraged David Giles to get more poster-boards sited before driving over to Priory Park to see how their campaign was doing. Sally and Brian Guinee were not out canvassing tonight as Michael did not manage to contact them and so I dragged him over to see them and saw that we met to discuss their contribution to the campaign. Then back to Eaton Socon to gather their canvassing data for the night before returning home to meet John Davidson and key in some 10% of the Priory Park canvas there. The news today was of the government's replacement plans for the Poll Tax; they are the re-introduction of a property tax based on capital values with a discount of 25% for one-person occupation.
