Kurds are losing hundreds of children each night on their mountain sites and now Turkey are relenting and bringing refugees down for aid

Relaxing a little after Derek Giles was able to manage the poster erections without my help and so I spent time organising canvassers for the following week. Our St Neots area campaigns going well but those in St Ives and Huntingdon less so and I called their Chairman Peter Downes accordingly.

Spurs beat Arsenal in the FA Cup final and Welshman Phil Woosnam, win the US masters tournament as the fourth British player to do so in as many years. Oil well fires rage in Iraq and the Kurds are losing hundreds of children each night on their mountain sites and now Turkey are relenting and bringing refugees down for aid.

A lay in this morning and then to my shower and, while I was in there, Derek telephoned and confirmed that I would not be wanted for putting up posters this morning and so I was able to stay at home. I was soon eating a nice fried breakfast which was very welcome after all of the American meals I have been forced to eat. I worked on my campaign for most of the day, making telephone calls that went on all day and had the effect of turning out more canvassers for the forthcoming week. I was under pressure for most of this time, worrying that I was not going to get the computer software and data diskettes from John Matthewman that would be needed for completing the campaign. It ended with relief that I had managed to contact him in the end and that he was able to get the diskettes ready for tomorrow.

I typed up the first chunk of my recent journal into the computer and also had a visit from Geoff Morris, an Eaton’s candidate, who wanted help with drafting some publicity for the forthcoming week's papers. Derek Giles managed to get most of the rest of his poster-boards up with help from Tony Carmedy. The St Ives campaign is not going very well due to lack of helpers and I liaised with Peter Downes to try to overcome this. I had some time off today to see Spurs beat Arsenal 2-1 in the FA cup final football match on TV. Gascoyne and Lineker were particularly good and made a really attractive game of it. More of my journal later on this evening and then to bed a little late after watching Welsh golfer, Phil Woosnam, win the US masters tournament as the fourth British player to do so in as many years. The maim political story is of John Major being grilled in a weekend television interview over being indecisive and bland in his approach despite the problems that faces him. His is quite cruelly parodied on the political puppet satire programme, "Spitting Images" as being a totally nondescript nonentity. In liberated Iraq, the oil teams have put out only a handful of oil well fires and there is recrimination over the time it is taking which will extend to years to do the rest. This is in contrast with Allied claims of it only being a few months when the wells were first fired. The Kurds are losing hundreds of children each night on their mountain sites and now Turkey are relenting and bringing refugees down to the more accessible plains where relief supplies can more easily reach them.
