Daniel sets off for his Norwich UEA university accommodation

A Focus meeting with Sally Guinee of the Liberal Democrats, A computer Development meeting of the HDC and then a Little Paxton History talk to the local Guides as Daniel Leaves home for Norwich and the UEA.

Nigel Mansell, the British Motor racing driver deciding against retirement after all and opting to drive for the Williams team next year instead and the unification of Germany is now all set to go ahead tomorrow after the four wartime powers - USA, USSR, France and Britain - hold their last meeting and return sovereignty to the Germans.

It was always going to be a busy day, with Sally Guinee coming around in the morning, a meeting of the District Council in the afternoon and a talk about Little Paxton to the Guides this evening; but it turned out to be particularly so as Daniel also chose today to leave home and go up to Norfolk a couple of days early. He packed up all of his belongings into his car and, after lunch when I had time to see him, we gave him the first week's money and then waved goodbye. We only then found out that he had forgotten to take a Heronshaw key, but I telephoned ahead to Jack Edwards to leave him a message to meet him there. A poignant time but at least he is only going to Norfolk where we can easily see him at Heronshaw.

My session with Sally this morning left her fully briefed for the Leisure and Amenities meeting and also resulted in us pulling together several leisure items and faxing them off to local journalists to give our party the coverage we are looking for. I also found time this morning to get out the projection equipment and make sure everything was working for this evening's talk as little girls will not be patient if there are any delays. My lunch was late as a result of all this and then, this afternoon, I cleared the wreckage from my office and fitted in a session on my journal before setting off for the District Council offices in Huntingdon. I had heard from Peter While today and so I was also able to drop off copies of the FOCUS copy for his editing and approval. The Computer Development Working Party meeting was quite interesting. I made a number of points which were taken as being very valid even by the Tory leader, Derek Holley. The members were outnumbered by officers who ran rings around Holley for most of the time, exasperating him by resisting any sign of financial control on their equipment and programming spending.

Home in time for a quick tea before going off to the School to give my talk to the Guides. I showed them my slides on The History of Little Paxton and they sat reasonably-attentively through most of the presentation to make the efforts worthwhile. All of the guides live in Paxton and many of them had grown up here as well. Home in time for my evening drink and then I watched a little TV before bed. The news was of Nigel Mansell, the British Motor racing driver deciding against retirement after all and opting to drive for the Williams team next year instead. The unification of Germany is now all set to go ahead tomorrow after the four wartime powers - USA, USSR, France and Britain - hold their last meeting and return sovereignty to the Germans.
