Koi Carp Society show
Koi Carp Society show

We were welcoming our children back from their adventure holidays today by firstly visiting Billing Aquadrome and collecting Debbie and her friend Helen whilst visiting the Koi Carp Society show there.  Then collecting Daniel and his friend Steve from Kimbolton later.

The new Solidarity Prime Minister is announced in Poland today and the anti-Thatcher strikes are now affecting British Airways

Today was the day we were expecting our children back from adventure holidays. We were awake a little early and I had to rush around to do the chores before we could set off for Billing Aquadrome. It was also the day of the Koi Carp Society show there and so we had decided to drop in at the same time.

We arrived at the show a bit early, but it gave time for morning drinks at a new ‘diner’ called ‘Hickories’. Daniella is getting into the annoying habit of ordering a drink and not having it which makes me rather full all the time! On to the Koi show, which was quite an event. The arena was lined with trade stands of dealers selling Koi, food and apparatus and the show vats were in the middle. First the show fish were ‘benched’ into the sizes and varieties and put into the requisite holding vats. All these vats were served by a centralised filtered and aerated water supply so that they could be kept safely and moved between vats without shock. Teams of four judges then compared them, awarded places; first, second and third for each size in each variety and the ‘champions’ were placed in a special vat. The one for size 6 and over (23 inches plus) made a cauldron of superb fish and its contents would have made the ideal Koi stock!

We went twice to the Billing Aquadrome and, in between, drove to the Northampton coach stop to collect Deborah and her friend Helen back from their holiday. We took the girls onto Billing because there were also fairground rides and amusements so that the occasion was ideal for the family. Once home, the girls were quite tired and weepy with exhaustion after many late nights on holiday and so they were early to bed.

A fine and sunny/warm day which was ideal for the Koi show etc., and then this evening I sat out on the lawn in the shade and wrote up my journal which was nice. Later, I went to Kimbolton again to collect Daniel and his friend Steve, taking the latter to Abbotsley before coming home. They had a great time and it is good to have him back.

The news is still about Poland with the name of the new Solidarity Prime Minister announced. The latest strikes in Thatcher’s Britain are affecting British Airways.
