Trident II missile eventually enters service in 1990

After a better night, and a session doing my chores, I took Di for a trip to St Neots and the market, allowing Della to play with Amy and Catherine for a while first. Lunch at the Southoe Little Chef and then to Buckden to look at boats without finding one to better The Lady. A major problem with the boat, as the copper fuel line had shorted on the ships batteries, spraying fuel everywhere. Eventually to get it started and back in Paxton in time for a poor parish council meeting.

Home late and to bed later hearing news that Solidarity being poised to assume power in Poland and that two of the three launches of the new US nuclear Trident missile have failed.

I slept better last night but resolved to get the room temperature right for tomorrow as it starts too warm and then gets too cold. Up a little late but then I rushed round to feed the animals and water the plants before leaving with Di for a trip to town and market. We delayed our departure so that Della could play a little with Amy and Catherine and had a coffee at home whilst had another go at the swimming pool.

In town, we had a pleasant walk around the shops and market until it came on to rain, so we ran back to the car and drove off to the Southoe Little Chef, where we had a nice lunch, spoilt only by an infestation of flies. Then up to Buckden, where we looked around all of the boats in the marina but found none better than ours. We look forward for a nice trip back up the river on The Lady, but I found it with a major fault. The ships batteries had shifted in transit and shorted on the main fuel lead, welding a hole and spraying diesel into the bilges! Thank God it was not a petrol engine, or we would have had a conflagration on our hands!! Even so, I had to get a union to join the pipe and then spend a couple of hours bleeding the fuel system until the engine eventually started. Di missed the trip, but I brought The Lady safely home. I was just time for tea but I had to rush off to a Parish Council Leisure and Amenities Meeting, which took all evening and did not resolve a great deal.

Home late after which I sat up until midnight watching TV which was unfortunate. The news today was of Solidarity being poised to assume power in Poland, with plans for a coalition government accepted by the President. Two of the three launches of the new US Trident nuclear missile have failed and therefore redesign, cost increase and delay seem to be inevitable.
