LH Jones boat brokerage pontoon in St Ives
LH Jones boat brokerage pontoon in St Ives

A day trip to St Ives in fine but windy weather after a heavy rain storm overnight where we met Mr and Mrs Chambers and then took the long walk to LH Jones boatyard to see the second hand boats for sale between morning drinks at the Harvest Bakery and lunch at the vegetarian café for. A good look round the stalls on market day and bought some good things.

More work on my press cuttings whilst watching televised test cricket as the South African State President PW Botha resigns and the Police Complaints Authority have now to investigate allegations of corruption in the West Midlands Serious Crime Squad.

A poor night again, but I still got up in good heart and decided upon a day trip to St Ives. I first ordered my papers and briefed Joan and Pete. Diana deferred approval of different working hours for Joan this week she feels that they are being changed too often and affects our ability to have a routine to adhere to. We set off for St Ives with the sun shining again after a bout of heavy and stormy rain overnight.

I parked to the rear of the church and walked via Waites Quay to have morning drinks at the Harvest Bakery. We met Mr and Mrs Chambers, there who were on their boat, and we had a chat before drinks. Then we took the long walk to LH Jones to see the secondhand boats for sale and then back again to have lunch at the vegetarian café, which has replaced The Rendezvous. It was market day in St Ives and we had a good look round the stalls and bought some good things. They also had some magazines on boat brokerage, but the more boat designs that we consider the more confusing things become.

Home via St Neots, where I had a haircut and Di did her weekly shopping at Waitrose. This late afternoon and evening, I read and took cuttings from the last of the local newspaper backlog whilst I watched the televised cricket and then went back to my desk later and made a start on the correspondence.

The news today is of the resignation of the South African State President PW Botha after a six-month feud with his chosen successor Mr de Klerk. He felt unable to continue after his cabinet ministers had ‘ignored him’. The Police Complaints Authority have now to investigate allegations of corruption in the West Midlands Serious Crime Squad. Detectives have fabricated and interfered with evidence and now the entire management of this squad has been transferred to non-operational duty whilst investigations continue. The South Yorkshire Police Authority have refused to accept the resignation of Chief Constable Peter Wright.

The weather stayed fine today but became very cloudy and windy. Rain is forecast again for tonight and will extend through the morning as well.
