Late to bed and reluctant to rise, having to eat breakfast in my dressing gown. After showering, dressing and shaving, I sat in the lounge for a long while reading both yesterday’s and today’s newspapers. I was waiting for the builders who arrived quite late. I typed a number of letters and then wrote up my journal before bed. Today was remarkably mild and it was quite pleasant to work outside. I am sure the grass was still growing and will continue until we get some hard frosts. The main news today is of 5000 civil servants walking out in London, Cardiff and Glasgow after the government sacked for GCHQ staff for belonging to a union.
