The Kings Cross rail fire
The Kings Cross rail fire

I slept well, despite a warm and muggy night, and then mowed the lawn before taking some calls on Council business and working on my Little Paxton history book. Off to Huntingdon in the Rolls-Royce for my District Council planning seminar as Diana attended the Kimbolton Prep Department sports day and then visiting several constituents this evening and delivering the last of my FOCUS leaflets. The King’s Cross fire enquiry reveals deficiencies in London Transport safety, Methodist leader the Rev Richard Jones attacks British Tory capitalism and social injustice.

A good night’s sleep, despite the warm & muggy weather, due to our opening balcony doors. A bit slow to get up this morning and so wore my dressing gown to breakfast and showered and shaved afterwards. Read the incoming mail and was distracted again this morning. I went out and mowed the games lawn, so that we could start watering it and then I had a few calls on Council business. Worked a little while on my Mill History chapter, until it was time to make myself a salad lunch. This afternoon, I drove to Huntingdon for a District Council Planning Seminar and had to take the Rolls Royce, as Diana was in the Range Rover at the Kimbolton Prep Department sports day.

I always cause quite a stir in that car, but at least the weather was sunny for a drive home afterwards with the roof down. A useful event; chance to meet the other Councillors and Planning Officers and they give the impression of being quite a well organised department. Home in time for tea and then, this evening, I went out visiting a number of constituents on various local matters and also delivered the last of my FOCUS leaflets by car to some of the outlying areas. Home in time to feed the ducks and doves and watch some TV, before writing up today’s journal. Main news today is of the end of the Kings Cross enquiry and there is widespread disquiet over the safety precautions and efficiency of London Transport. After the story yesterday of a young child being left to starve to death by errant parents, a foster father was jailed for life today at Leeds Crown Court for the murder of a two-year-old boy placed in his care. He had over 100 bruises on his body. The President of the Methodist Conference, The Rev Richard Jones, has joined other church leaders in attacking British capitalism and the social injustice of present policies.
